|Richard Blum, M.D., FACP|
Board-certified internist Richard H. Blum, M.D., FACP, recently was certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology.
Dr. Blum is one of approximately 700 physicians nationwide to hold the prestigious designation, and the only physician in the Wyoming Valley area to be so credentialed.
Lipidologists assist patients to reach the goals of cholesterol and lipid (fat) management necessary to control or prevent cardiovascular disease and premature cardiac death. Many patients who have seemingly normal lipid profiles as obtained in a typical clinical laboratory, may in fact have abnormalities only detectable with more advanced lipid testing.
Without detection and treatment, some patients remain at risk for premature atherosclerotic disease and its attendant consequences. Some lipid abnormalities are genetic and need to be treated aggressively even at an early age. Lipidologists are specially trained to evaluate multiple drug interactions and toxicities of combination therapy that is so often needed by patients with serious cholesterol and lipid disorders.
Dr. Blum has practiced in Wilkes-Barre for the past 34 years. He is now available for consultation in the management of lipid disorders at his office at 545 North River Street, Suite 230, Wilkes-Barre. For more information, or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Blum, please call 570-826-0526.
