Wound Healing Center

Chronic wounds - like the ones that are often caused by diabetes, poor circulation and many other conditions - can make life a painful and difficult proposition every day. Millions of Americans, including many in our own community, suffer from these painful wounds. Now there's a place right here, where you or a loved one can get the help - and the relief - you deserve.

A Center that's dedicated to healing wounds.

The Wound Healing Center at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital is all about treating chronic wounds. Our multidisciplinary team includes physicians with advanced training in wound management and nurses skilled in chronic wound care treatment. These experienced professionals are dedicated to developing the most effective, appropriate wound treatment plan for every patient.

An extraordinary blend of traditional and advanced wound treatment practices.

Our approach is comprehensive - and all about the treatment of chronic wounds. It combines proven wound practices with the most advanced clinical approaches, including Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. HBOT is a highly effective treatment option that enhances the body’s natural healing and strengthens the immune system.

A bit more about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy...

HBOT is all about increasing blood flow and oxygen delivery to vital organs. It treats the entire body with 100% pure oxygen - at greater than normal atmospheric pressures. The increased pressure dissolves that oxygen into all body cells, tissues and fluids – including the blood plasma – at up to 10 times normal concentration. The proven benefits of HBOT include:

  • INCREASED oxygen concentration in all body tissues
  • STIMULATED GROWTH of new blood vessels to locations with reduced circulation.
  • IMPROVED blood flow to areas with arterial blockage
  • REBOUND arterial dilation (which occurs immediately after HBOT), resulting in increased blood vessel diameters and improved blood flow to afflicted organs.
  • INCREASED production of superoxide dismutase (SOD), one of the body's principal natural antioxidants
  • ENHANCED white blood cell action
Who can benefit from it?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is gaining more and more recognition as an effective treatment of chronic degenerative health disorders like atherosclerosis, stroke, peripheral vascular disease, diabetic ulcers, wound healing, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, macular degeneration and brain injury.
